Journal with a partner

Invite a Contributor to your Family Journal, keep separate queues and reminders, and answer the same prompt with two voices under one Kinlet Pro.

One Family Journal. Two voices. One Kinlet Pro membership. Kinlet lets parents (or any two adults) write together in the same journal. The Keeper owns the journal and invites a Contributor. Each person gets their own daily questions, their own mix of subjects, and their own reminders — then both can answer the same prompt so the book carries Mom's voice and Dad's voice side by side.

Who does what

  • Keeper — Owns the Family Journal. Invites collaborators. Full settings (Subjects, Members, Holidays). Pays for Kinlet Pro.
  • Contributor — One writing seat. Own daily queue, subject mix, and notifications. Writes as a family-tree person (for example Dad). Uses the keeper's Pro.
  • Viewer — Read-only access. No daily queue.

Keeper: invite your partner

1. Open Members

On the Keeper account, go to Settings → Journal → Members.

3. Choose email, role, and voice

Enter their email. Choose Contributor (writes with you) or Viewer (can read). For a Contributor, pick the Family Member they write as — the name and nickname used as their byline in the book (for example James Sullivan — Dad). Review permissions, then Send invite.

4. Confirm email + copy link

After sending, Kinlet confirms the invite was emailed and shows a copy-link backup. They still need to sign in with the invited email.

5. Track pending invites

Until they accept, the invite sits under Pending invites. You can Resend or Revoke.

Partner: join as a Member / Contributor

1. Create an account

Your partner downloads Kinlet and creates an account with the same email you invited. After they sign in, Kinlet detects pending invitations for that email and opens the invite step automatically—no need to choose Keeper or Member.

Sign up with the invited email.

2. Accept the journal invite

Under Invites for this email, they see a Journal · Contributor card (for example Elena's Story). Tap Accept.

Shared membership

On the Contributor's Settings, Plan shows Pro with the line Included with the keeper's Pro. Storage, AI, and SMS journaling for the Contributor ride the Keeper's subscription — no second Pro bill.

Contributors manage participation under Access (not Members). Keepers keep the Members screen for invites.

Separate queues, mix, and reminders

Your own daily prompt

Each writer sees their own daily question on Journal Home. Answer, snooze with Not now, or Skip — Skip and Not now only affect your queue. When either person answers, that prompt is burned for both daily queues so you don't get the same question twice as today's prompt.

Your own subject mix

Open Settings → Access. Confirm your Contributor voice (byline). Under Subjects, turn subjects on or off and set the daily question mix percentages (must total 100%). Tap Save.

Access: Contributor voice and subject mix
Settings → Access → Subjects mix.

The Keeper still configures the full roster under Settings → Subjects. Contributors choose which of those subjects they write about and how often.

Your own reminders

Each person sets notifications on their own device: App Notification (push on this phone) and Text (SMS) so daily questions arrive by text and you can reply without opening the app.

Enable App Notification on this device.

Both answer the same prompt

One parent answers first. The other opens that entry and adds their answer so the prompt keeps both voices.

See the first answer

Open the entry. You'll see the shared Prompt and the other parent's answer (for example Mom's Answer).

Add your answer

Edit / add your voice on the same prompt. Your draft appears as Your Answer while the other voice stays visible.

Both voices on one entry

After you save, the entry shows Your Answer and Mom's Answer (or Dad's) under the same prompt — ready for the book.
