FAQ

The questions families ask before they start.

Because trusting a new app with your family's memories is a big deal. Here's everything you need to feel good about getting started.

Getting started

The first steps should feel small enough to do today.

Do I need a perfect timeline to make Kinlet work?

No. Traditional baby books demand a perfect, chronological timeline, but Kinlet is built around one memory at a time. You can start journaling today with a single prompt or photo, then add more when life allows. Let our design studio handle organizing and formatting your stories whenever you're ready to make a book.

What kind of journal can I create?

You can save everyday stories, milestones, photos, videos, voice notes, scanned handwriting, and book drafts. Kinlet is flexible enough for pregnancy, first year, adoption, pets, holidays, love letters, caregiving, and the ordinary days between.

Can I use Kinlet without making a printed book?

Yes. Printing is optional. You can use Kinlet as a private family journal and a shareable photo archive.

Free vs Pro and billing

Start free, then upgrade when the archive grows.

Is the free plan really usable?

Yes. Free lets you begin a family journal, respond to prompts, upload photos and videos, and test out AI-assisted book generation. We include limits so that our media storage and AI infrastructure costs stay sustainable for our small team.

What does Kinlet Pro add?

Pro adds more storage, broader AI usage, unlimited voice and handwriting capture tools, and full design studio access for book creation. It is meant for families whose archive is growing past the free limits.

What happens if I cancel Pro?

Your memories are yours, always. You can export everything as a .zip file and keep it forever, whether you stay on Kinlet or not. If your account exceeds free limits after cancellation, you may need Pro again before adding more media or using Pro-only tools.

Are printed books included in Pro?

No. Pro covers the software tools. Physical books, taxes, and shipping are priced separately at checkout so you only pay for the keepsakes you choose to order.

Use of AI

From journal entry to printed book, AI makes the in-between effortless.

Does AI write my journal entries for me?

No. Kinlet can suggest prompts, transcribe voice notes, and help shape a book layout, but your original words stay central and editable.

Can I edit or reject AI suggestions?

Yes. Nothing AI produces is final. Edit or reject any suggested text, then bring that same control to your book — adjust layouts, customize fonts, choose from templates, or add your own look and feel. The finished product should feel like you made it, because you did.

Will my family stories sound generic?

That is exactly what Kinlet is designed to avoid. The product should help you preserve your voice, memorable moments, and context instead of replacing them with stock scrapbook copy.

Privacy and ownership

Privacy is our priority.

Who owns the journal entries I add to Kinlet?

You do. Kinlet is a tool for collecting, shaping, and ordering your family memories. Your journal and photos are private by default.

Can other people see my journal entries?

Absolutely not. Everything you write is completely private by default. Kinlet gives you the best of both worlds without needing two separate apps: it gives you a quiet space to document your thoughts, alongside shared albums for the rest of the family. You can invite family members to shared albums where they can view, like, and comment on the specific moments you choose to pass along, but your actual journal remains for your eyes only.

Do I need to provide personally identifiable information for Kinlet to work?

No. You choose what to save. Kinlet can work with what you provide and does not require a perfect timeline, a traditional family structure, or private details you do not want to record.

Photos, voice notes, and storage

Use what you already reach for.

How much media can I store?

Free includes 250 MiB of storage and 30 photo uploads per month. Generated files such as export ZIPs and print-ready PDFs count toward storage, even after download links expire. Kinlet Pro includes 100 GiB for families with more photos, recordings, and keepsake drafts.

Can I use voice notes instead of typing?

Yes. Kinlet can help turn recordings into editable text.

Can I upload videos?

Yes, with some limits. Our Free plan supports videos up to 2 minutes each. Pro supports videos up to 5 minutes each.

Books, Shipping, and Checkout

Print-worthy books, priced so you'll actually order them.

How much do printed books cost?

Hardcover books start at about CA$28 for 30 pages, plus taxes and shipping. The final price depends on the book options, total page count, and local rates at checkout.

Can I preview a book before ordering?

Yes. You can review your book in the design studio or download it as a print-ready PDF at any time. Kinlet ensures you have full access to edit and check your digital keepsake so you feel completely confident before sending it to print.

Why are shipping and print costs separate?

Kinlet partners with trusted print providers based on what you're ordering and where it's going. That means production and shipping costs vary by order, and keeping them separate from your subscription means you're never paying for prints you haven't made yet.

Shared Albums

Share photos with the people who matter most.

Can family members participate in journaling?

No. Your private journal entries cannot be viewed or edited by anyone else. Inviting family members to a shared album allows them to see the photos you choose to share, but they can never access, read, or write in your personal journal.

What can people do in a shared album?

Invited viewers can see the album photos, leave comments, and add reactions. It is meant for family enjoyment and conversation, not collaborative editing of the archive.

Can viewers print keepsakes from a shared album?

Yes, if the album author allows it. Keepsake creation is enabled by default, so viewers can make their own prints or books from shared album content unless the author turns that permission off.

Can viewers download the original photo files?

Only if the album owner enables original downloads. Viewing, commenting, liking, and making an authorized keepsake do not automatically grant access to original files.
